Bariloche - Argentina
San Carlos de Bariloche, or simply Bariloche, is the most important winter city for tourism of South America. It is located in the southwest of the province of Río Negro, Argentina, next to the mountain range of the Los Andes, indeed at lake Nahuel Huapi. Its beautiful natural reserves that include lakes, forests and mountains, its architectonic style, and its outstanding ski centers are the main attractive and the economic sustenance of this city. Homonym is also the head of the department.
The Bariloche name comes from mapudungun and is a derivative of the Vuriloche word that means “people across the mountain”. This name gave mapuches to the original inhabitants who lived on this side of the range. On the other hand, the beginning of San Carlos was originated with the warehouse of Don Carlos Wiederhold installed in 1895 in the actual center of the city. Soon, when established the city, the name was badly understood, changing from Don Carlos to San Carlos.
